Love this book. It is the best to learn meditative prayer and getting closer with Jesus. It has taught me more trust in God. You have to buy it to experience it.

Not only does this contain the gospel reading for each day but gives you a couple of thought provoking paragraphs for each day.

Daily reflections linked to Scripture that invite engagement and reflection.

I love lectio divina and it forms the backbone of my prayer life. I'd like to say that I have plenty of time to sit down, relax towards silence, and THEN pick up the day's readings and find my own path. Sometimes I do, most of the time I don't. How do I describe these materials? They are not your average reflections. It's like someone pre-prayed the day's readings and then put their thoughts down for someone else to use. "This is the path I found, maybe it will be helpful to you." The only drawback is the size of the book, I prefer paper for prayer time but the book doesn't fit in my purse.

I've enjoyed previous years and assume 2019 will be the same.

Got this on my Kindle as I plan my second trip to Cuba and wish I had read it before ever having gone. The text is chock full of facts, tips and do's and font's in a "just the facts maam" sort of way. Nantes tell you what to eat, where to go, how to get there and generally de-mistifyes the whole Cuban experience with the occasional anecdote that illustrates the charm and attraction of this once forbidden adventure. There's history and plenty of color; not only Havana, but the farther and off the beaten path places: Trinidad, Cayo Jutia, Olguin and Gibara. I liked the simple explanations of the various money transactions; what to expect to pay for food, lodging and transport -- also the descriptions of the various lodging options are helpful. This book is written as a true guide book, by sections and you just have to keep referring to that which interests you next, instead of having to wade through a long-winded and general narrative. This is a book for real travelers, not a novel. What a joy!

Wow I am in the process of planning a trip to Cuba and I find this book!- Easy quick read that can put to rest any uneasiness I might have had. I feel that when I go I am prepared. Enjoyed the sectionalized history portions. Pictures are beautiful! You don't have to spend a lot of money to experience Cuba like a native! Best way to travel. Now can you expand your books to other areas such as China?!!

I cannot tell you how thrilled I was when having discovered this gem. Having my friends and family of Cuban heritage and not having been to Cuba before due to the restrictions that were placed long ago, I can now immerse myself in their heritage and culture through the writings in the book. What is most surprising about this book is its geographical and historical accuracy. I have seen other literature on the same subject, but nothing can compare to this book. I have recommended it already to many friends and family. Thank you for taking the time to write this book, it truly has shown the best what this culture has to offer. I look forward to my next venture to Cuba.

This book is the best relationship book. Ever. I stumbled on it as I was going through my divorce in 2001 and it became my mantra. Beyond the simplistic drawing for children, you can see the power of Shel Silverstein's words of don't be someone's missing piece, when you become your own independent self, you will find your equally independent match to roll with. It took me 15 years, but I have found that person. I gift this book to every dear friend going through a divorce or hard break up. I'm buying it again today for my cousin. Sometimes simplicity brings the greatest revelations.... it did for me.

This is a great story that I have actually used both as a parent and in my work as a psychologist. I have read it to my children to increase their understanding of boundaries and the idea of wanting vs. needing someone else or others in their lives.In my practice, I have found it helpful in working with patients with codependency issues. It helps elaborate the differences between dependence, interdependence and codependence and normalizes the challenges we all face in different ways in our lives. Ironically maybe, the use of characters depersonalizes the discussion and helps patients step outside of themselves for just a minute to see what their behavior may look and feel like to important others in their lives.It's also been very useful in working with patients with borderline personality disorder, as it helps them to better understand the importance of boundaries and the need vs. want idea, too. It includes a great deal of metaphor that is thought-provoking for patients and invites them into a dialogue about the challenges they face in interpersonal relationships. Very often, they can see themselves in the depictions of maladaptive relating, and they gain a new understanding of what's adaptive, why and how to achieve it. It helps solidify and give visual representation to the vital understanding of where they end and others begin.

My biggest take away from this story is to remember to slow down to enjoy the little things in life - don't run so fast that you let the small joys pass you by. Also, I think it has great meaning behind friendships - not all friends (or "pieces") fit the same way so you have to know how to choose and when to let go of unhealthy relationships.Shel Silverstein was a brilliant author and his stories are just magnificent. I love his books and highly recommend them for everyone. They have wonderful teachable moments and lots of reading enjoyment within.Happy Reading!

This book is amazing. This was introduced to my daughter (6 yo) by her school counselor as a way to help make heads and tails of my divorce from her dad because he's not in the picture anymore. She really en joyed this book, and it's helping her to understand that even though he is not around anymore, she can still have a happy and fulfilled life. I highly recommend this book to any child of parents who are going through a divorce, or any child with an absent parent.

It's a very sweet, simple tale about a character who feels like there's something missing in his life and spends his time in search of the perfect piece to complete him. Once he finds it, he realizes that sometimes you don't always want what you think you want, and that sometimes the journey is more enjoyable than the destination. Beautiful lessons.

I loved this book for several reasons. First, the format. With reproductions of the actual postcards, I could see the feelings behind the words in the person's artwork, colors, and technique. Each one was so different from the rest. Then there were the stories themselves. As a writer, I read many of these secrets and thought how they would make an interesting premise for a novel. As I read the book I found myself uplifted and inspired. The things people have gone through and survived was amazing! The book as a whole is a microcosm of humanity's pain, sorrow and joy. I highly recommend this book.

I really went through a gamut of emotions looking at and reading this book. What an astounding impact this project has had on so many people. I found this to be like a little surprise of treasure which I value and want to keep safe. I believe this is an incredible "coffee table" book and would be a welcome gift for just about anyone.I love this book.

It is a testament to the universality of human emotions and the human experience---fears, guilt, regret, and loneliness especially. Oftentimes as I read, thought, "I've felt just this way!" Some of the secrets are profound and some are trivial , but all are secrets that one can relate to and have compassion for.It is not a depressing, but an uplifting book, in that seeing how we are all the same somehow paradoxically makes us feel less alone. It is a very honest book. And it is a beautiful book, too, because the post cards are made creatively to express the feelings the post card writer wants to convey.It is a great book to pick up and read in one sitting (as I did in a couple of hours) or just to browse a couple here and there when you have a few moments. It is also a great book for those of us who are introspective and enjoy exploring our "shadow side".Kudos to Frank Warren, the author, for thinking of such a creative idea that can benefit so many people. It is still worth buying the book, though, in my opinion, because of the overall impact of the book when read in one sitting, and because a hardcopy is so much easier to share with others.**** [...]

For a while I had known about the PostSecret project before I decided to pick up my copy of the book. Now this is not your typical coffee table book (for lack of a better description). PostSecret is the brainchild of Frank Warren who receives anonymous postcards from people confessing secrets they've told nobody about. He's published the best ones on this book.It is impossible to quote the postcards without making the book justice, because many of the items submitted are incredible visual works, yet these three postcards may help you understand the type of material this book is about:-"Once I was asked by a doctor if I was hearing voices. The voices inside my head shouted: TELL HIM NO!"-"I trashed my parent's house to look like I had a party while they were out of town... so my mom would think I had friends."-"I give decaf to customers who are RUDE to me!" (written on a Starbuck's cup).I highly recommend both the book and the web site. They both are commendable for the work they do to help people in distress to beging to get mental loads off their shoulders.

FAN-TAST-IC BOOK!!! This book is so raw. You get such a sense of who people truly are. I would estimate 95% of people wouldn't be able to read halfway through this without shedding a tear. It's so touching. I would recommend this book to anyone. Everyone has their insecurities, and this book really demonstrates that. It would be great for teens who struggling most with self-esteem.

In their poetry, in their honest, in their true artistry.I came across this book in a bookstore and just started flipping through it. I couldn't believe how easily I was sucked in. I must have read half of it standing there without looking up. Even now, I continue to dip into it from time to time and look for new ones at the PostSecret website.I appreciate the "psychological help" that this project has allowed Warren to give to others. If he has helped one person through their pain by this, then he deserves all the laurels his readers have heaped on him. But, if I can be allowed a moment of honesty, I don't really care much about that. What I personally do care about is that he's created a truly moving piece of art that I hope continues indefinitely.

In the words of my son...This book was a true life saver for me for the AP Physics 1 Exam. My class course did not properly prepare me for the exam, and I lacked enough knowledge of a lot of what I should have known. I did not think that a book with so few calculations would be useful, but in fact it was the opposite, since it turns out that there are little to no calculations on the AP Physics 1 Exam. This book goes through step by step explanations of every topic covered on the exam, and stresses points that are vital for understanding, and will likely appear on the exam. I really felt like I was being taught the class just by reading the book. Also, the book points to various equations which are not on the given equation sheet, but are still incredibly useful and often necessary for using on the exam.The online practice test was also pretty good, but a little bit inconvenient since I prefer being able to write on the exam. Also, chapter 11 on waves and sounds has very confusing and contradicting information which is entirely different from other books.Other than that, this book was the best book that I have used, and helped me earn a 4 on the AP exam, despite not being properly taught in class.

It is a great book. The explanations are specific, make it easier to review in a short period of time.

My daughter used this book to prepare for the AP test a month ahead of the test. She wishes she had it during the whole year to follow along as the teacher covered the material.

I just finished the AP physics I exam and this book is useless. My friends and I got 4 books and used them to practice for the test. This book was the weakest by far. Use it if you hope to get a 3, certainly not for a 4 or a 5 on the AP physics test. Lacks content and has poor explanations. Not up the quality or content of other AP physics 1 books.

Good review of topics covered in AP Physics 1

The book is way shorter and contains much less content than I expected. It barely gave any information on concepts. It does not give examples that are solved completely. I'm confident that there are better options out there.

In 1903, Hermione Templeton Kavanagh published a collection of stories about one Darby O'Gill, the only man in Ireland who was able to stand up to the Little People and beat them at their own tricks. In 1959, Walt Disney released a live-action film of these tales, DARBY O'GILL AND THE LITTLE PEOPLE, which also incidentally introduced a young - and singing! - Sean Connery to an American audience, and also incidentally led to his being cast as the immortal James Bond.Tor paperbacks has "updated" (meaning" "textually regularized for modern readers") Kavanagh's stories - apparently very heavy in Irish dialect.The result is a wonderful romp with Darby as he encounters King Brian Conners (of the Little People)and defeats the banshee and the spooky Costa Bower while proving that a seeming simple man can also be a Very Wise Man. We also learn how the Fairies came to Ireland: a surprising tale in itself.This collection is a wonderful read for devotees of fantasy, folk tales,Irish myth and Walt Disney. It's also a "surprise find" on Amazon.

I enjoyed this book and its roughly 100 year-old stories! I found some of them quite amusing and funny. I gave this book four stars because the diction isn't very consistent. I love how the author/editors used spelling to convey accent (like "tay"="tea"), but some of the words had multiple, 3 or 4, spellings, which made it slightly confusing. I did have fun reading it, though. If you watch the movie, Darby O'Gill and the Little People (1959), and then read the book, it's even better! The only possible reason I could think of why anyone wouldn't like it is if they are not fimiliar at all with Ireland and it's culture, people and mythology. It's a difficult read if you don't understand what the characters are saying and talking about! Overall, great book!

an excellent book on what the early 20th century Irish regarded at least some of them in faerie and to a lesser extent ghost lore.

I have always loved this story but have never gotten to read the whole book.I was thrilled to get this copy.The only reason I gave this book three stars is because the print was so smallI had trouble readng the book, even with my reading glasses.I do recommend the book for the story but you might want to search on Amazonfor a larger copy with larger print.

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. Although the Disney Movie was based on it loosely, there are many differences. The stories in the book were set in Tipperary near the Mountain of Slieve-na-Mon; the movie was set in Kilarney near "Nok-na-sheega" In the book Darby is a young man with a son and at least one daugher and his wife, Bridget very much alive and part of the stories. In the movie he is a elderly widower with a daughter. Finally, in the book he is a small farmer whereas in the Movie he is a caretaker for the gentry.Darby in Herminie Templeton Kavanaugh'S stories is a "knowledgible man" meaning he has collected extensive information about the "Good People" or the Leprechauns who live under a mountain not far away. He was captured by them after they had taken his prize cow and he had gone back to get her as they let their stolen cattle out to graze under the moon. In escaping, Darby also manages to liberate his sister in law Maureen from their control (She had been given the come hither some time before) and yet the two become good friends with King Brian of the Good People who routinely visits them in evenings at Darby's hearth (much to the discomfort of Darby's wife Bridget). Bridget calls on Father Cassidy to put a stop to Darby's association with the "Good People" and he comes to Darby's house loaded with blessings and holy things but the shrewd little people battle him to a standstill. Later when Father Cassidy is riding his horse in the mountains and she throws a shoe, King Brian befriends him and answers a question that had been bothering him (How did the little people get into Ireland). King Brian does overstay after a night at Darby's but it is not Darby that captures him and tries to wring advantages from him but a string of Darby's neighbors with humourous results.Finally, Darby saves not his daughter but a friend from the Banshee and in the altercation (he and the banshee run square into each other on the midst of a bridge over a flooded stream) the bansee loses her gold comb. Darby returns it to the witch ("spy of the fairies") Sheila McGuire (not Sugrue)in return for promises not to visit him and his family and to leave the poor fellow and his wife alone that she had been chasing. But Darby did not return the whole comb (a piece had broken off) and the Banshee despondently refused to work and the following Halloween all the unhappy ghosts came from the mountain of Crogmagh to force Darby to hand it over. Darby chnced on them on a dark road by a mill and onnly by invoking King Brian'S aid were they saved. King Brian invoked the Coiste Bodhar driver Sean (a headless ghost or Dullahan) who King Brian informs Darby is the only ghost civil enough to be worthy of his associaton. Sean drives them in the Coiste Bodhar to Coagmagh (An Irish "purgatory" for ghosts where the Banshee resides, like Slieve-na-Mon inside a mountain though unlike SlievenaMon its location is probably not known to mortals) Darby is given his wishes again and wishes wisely, the last time asking the Banshee sing an old Irish ballad which, flattered she does so beutifully that it is not possible to describe, Darby having thus won her regard.The book creates a fascinating contrast: Darby is by day a likeable but laughable spalpeen farmer afraid of his own shadow and prone to daydream at the slightest provocation (It was said that once he developed a liking for honest work and felt so odd about it he went to see the doctor for medicine) But by night when he enters the world of latter day Celtic myth, legend and superstition (though still plagued by the same faults and shortcomings) he becomes something of a great hero figure having (As Pwyll of Dyfed did hundreds of years before him in the Mabinogeon) been to the Otherworl and been permitted to return and earned the rich gifts and highest regard of the King of the Otherword, or who has emerged from great battles with the "forces of darkness" not only undefeated but enhanced and well regarded. As has been suggested, these are ancient stories in modern clothing like those of riddle/magic duel of the Blacksmith and of the "Maiden or the lover dead far away who comes one last time to say goodbye" that populate the folklore of these regions.Herminie Templeton Kavanaugh tells these stories in a delightful way preserving many of the local expressions and pronunciations ("baste" for "beast" and "divil a foot" and many more). Onse senses that with modernization our world so much that was delightful has quietly been lost, and one is grateful to Ms Templeton Kavanaugh that she recorded these stories when she did.

After watching Disney's Darby O'Gill, I could't wait to read the books. While the movie is clearly a derivative of the tales, they provide a magical insight onto Irish legends and lore, spiced with mystery, superstition and wonder.
