I'm glad that this book features the stories of so many black history makers we don't often hear about instead of the same old famous figures. I had never heard of some of them like Mark Dean, Christopher Gardner, Leanna Archer who made (like the title says) amazing contributions to the world .... I'm getting another copy of this book as a gift for my grandchild. I got the Kindle version - but I'm getting the hard copy too because the colorful illustrations make this book really beautiful. It'd be a great gift or coffee table book as well.

A beautiful collection of short accounts of 50 legendary Black people, not JUST Americans, who have been influential in the history of the world. Each includes a positive affirmation and opens the door to conversations every parent should have with his/her child about the world and how to act and react to social injustices. This book should be read by people of every skin color.

This book was a great buy. It’s actually the first book that I can read to my kids that is not all fanciful and imaginary. The book is extensive and has many easy to read stories of heroes in black history. Each personality is summed up in 1-2 pages and the ideas that are found in the writings give the impetus to discuss and teach a lot of points of morality and inspiration to the kids. The funny thing is that I bought it for my kids but ended up learning a lot myself. An excellent buy.

I love reading this at night with my daughter. It has unexpected people diverse fields and after every person it has encouraging words.

This book of bedtime stories is the perfect thoughtful, educational gift that will elevate the way a child dreams! I love that each story is written in a conversational tone, with moments built-in to check in with your child and draw them into the narrative by asking questions they can answer as you read together. And the way that it clearly defines terms so often thrown around (from leadership to respect to heroism), is refreshing and instructive - both for children and the grownups reading with them.

My five year old and I have really enjoyed this book so far. However, the wording in the dedication at the front I thought was a little negative. It's dedicated to everyone who has ever been told they couldn't make it and had their dreams crushed or something like that. Which is fine. And as a person who has, I appreciate that. I just prefer things to be worded in the affirmative in stories designed for kids. After all, even kids who have never had their dreams crushed outright need positive role models and uplifting messages. And you don't have to have had that happen to you to find inspiration in the stories. I thought it was a really dark note on which to start out such a positive collection of success stories.

This book offers a great selection of black heroes who serve as an inspiration to the next generation. I feel my children can really learn a lot from this book. Thankfully, they were really into it the first few nights that we read to them. And they really love the positive affirmations at the end of the book. Theses stories definitely will help their self-esteem and their pride in their history and in their culture. Great job by the author.

It's ok, but not inspirational. Other books I have on design have much more information and many examples that inspire you to create your own designs. Be aware that the print version of this book is in black and white... No Color. hmmm... so I almost started laughing on all of the pages, info about color, showing the color wheel.. yes, showing the color wheel in black and white (and grey). Makes it much more difficult to understand the concepts. If you are a big collector of books, ok. But if not, there are so many other books on design that are so much better than this, namely ones by Margie Deeb.

As an 'almost empty-nester', I recently took a bead weaving class to make a bracelet and earrings. I fell in love with it immediately! The beads are fun to play with, and I find the weaving process to be relaxing. Once getting the hang of it, the actual weaving is fairly easy - especially in a class where someone else has figured out the design already, and has supplied you with the necessary materials. What's difficult is figuring out any of this on your own! For a novice, venturing into a bead store is very over-whelming.That is where this book comes in. While I found the first chapter on the significance of jewelry in history to be very interesting, the rest of the book is fantastic as a resource. Tish goes into great detail on the color wheel and how to figure out color schemes. She discusses all sorts of materials and how to put them together. She includes references for finding all kinds of supplies. And there are even a few patterns (including materials lists) for making your own projects. Great book. This book takes a look at the economics and social pressures that plagued Salem during the late 17th century. The book does not go into depth with the trials themselves, merely the tensions that brought them on.

I needed this book for my capstone paper. My topic was figuring out if Parris sparked the trials to secure his place in the community. This book was perfect since it explores the social problems and situations of Salem to help explain the trials. The book reads very easily and is just all together interesting, even as just a fun read.

I had this in hard copy but it was stolen.l I was thrilled to find it on Prime. Fascinating slant on what happened in Salem and why it happened.

If you intend to study the Salem incident in any serious amounts this should be your starting point. It gives an excellent amount of insight and information. Among colonial american historians, this is a staple.

One of the great things about not being the first reviewer of a book, is that you can feel free to limit yourself to a discussion of what you felt was important about the book to your own point of view, since most of the other reviewers will have covered some of the more general issues about the book.Like the lead reviewer, I do not buy into the authors' sociological conclusions regarding the origins of the Salem Witch trials. But that does not mean this is not a very valuable book for those who study this subject. Since it does end with a socio-economic explanation of events, it marshalls and displays an impressive amount of evidence regarding the state of Salem Village at the time of the outbreak. You are unlikely to find this information elsewhere, and it is just as likely to support an alternative explanation as the one to which the authors lead you.For example, early in the book, the authors make the connection between the events in Salem and the events, 42 years later, a few dozen miles to the west, in Northampton, Massachusetts, during what was called the First or "Little" Great Awakening in the parish of Jonathan Edwards. This was the source for my alternate theory of the events in Salem. This means that one should read this book with an open heart, get what ideas are good, and criticize the ideas which may be too much of a stretch.If the authors attend too much to any one point, it seems to be the motives of certain individuals. My reading of the events is that it was an incident fuelled not by the evil or ignorance of one person, like Thomas de' Torquemada's role in the Spanish Inquisition, but in the sense of the times, fed by the way in which the incident was sparked by the Amerindian slave Tituba and her vision of many witches signing the Devil's book.

I feel as though I need to apologize to an entire country for purchasing the wrong book. With limited space, I thought this one would pack well. Most of the things I need are not anywhere in this book or so difficult to find, my situation is over before I can get to the phrase. Buy a dictionary, it will serve you better. I have never needed to tell someone I was too drunk.

I recommend Lonely Planet phrase books for ever foreign adventure. It's a lifesaver! They're broken down into easy to find subjects and the pronunciation breakdown is accurate.... unless it's Polish and then you can just point to what you want to say. I can hold my own with German but my American mouth just can't make Polish sounds.

I'm trying to brush up on some basic Polish conversation skills (phrases) - love this book for that! But I wouldnt recommend this as a Polish-English dictionary only (if that is what you need) because it doesnt have a lot of words in that section.

Myself & members of immediate family came from Europe. I speak German & English but not Polish. Polish is my Pappa's language. This is a great book to communicate with my Polish family. Thank You
