It's ok, but not inspirational. Other books I have on design have much more information and many examples that inspire you to create your own designs. Be aware that the print version of this book is in black and white... No Color. hmmm... so I almost started laughing on all of the pages, info about color, showing the color wheel.. yes, showing the color wheel in black and white (and grey). Makes it much more difficult to understand the concepts. If you are a big collector of books, ok. But if not, there are so many other books on design that are so much better than this, namely ones by Margie Deeb.
As an 'almost empty-nester', I recently took a bead weaving class to make a bracelet and earrings. I fell in love with it immediately! The beads are fun to play with, and I find the weaving process to be relaxing. Once getting the hang of it, the actual weaving is fairly easy - especially in a class where someone else has figured out the design already, and has supplied you with the necessary materials. What's difficult is figuring out any of this on your own! For a novice, venturing into a bead store is very over-whelming.That is where this book comes in. While I found the first chapter on the significance of jewelry in history to be very interesting, the rest of the book is fantastic as a resource. Tish goes into great detail on the color wheel and how to figure out color schemes. She discusses all sorts of materials and how to put them together. She includes references for finding all kinds of supplies. And there are even a few patterns (including materials lists) for making your own projects. All of this is made easier to understand and visualize by all of the beautiful photos of Tish's creations interspersed throughout the book.Whether your interest in jewelry making is for business or pleasure, The Essential Guide to Epic Jewelry Design really is an essential tool to keep on your crafting table.
What a great book, with explanations for color theory, color charts, and materials guide. This book is an in-depth guide to making fabulous looking jewelry. If you struggle with whats beads or colors to use this book is perfect!

The wrong mix can turn a stunning component into a muddy mess. Colors that the untrained eye would never consider combining, become eye-catching artwork when properly applied. Tish provides detailed explanations, definitions, and charts for harmonious color use.Chapter 3: The Allure of Texture- This lesson shows how the use of Textures, along with harmonious colors, can create a stunning design. Really great quality book (especially for KindleFree). Not just a few designs and the same basic instructions everyone else includes but a lot of particular details about everything from the design process to characteristics of materials to be aware of. Much more useful than any other Kindle book on jewelry making that I have seen.
