BEWARE - MULTIPLE TRANSLATIONS USED - NUMEROUS MODERN TRANSLATIONS USED - I was so eager to get it, I did not think to check the bible version used. The book uses many, some I like better than others - some parts of a verse are left out so it "fits" into the category better, that disappointed me. All are good scriptures, just wish they had been consistent in which translation and told you up front which translation(s) were used.
Bought this when I first became a Christian almost 60 years ago and was glad to see it still in print. I bought it for a someone who needed encouragement and peace from the promises of God! Valuable to all Christians no matter how long you've been walking with the Lord!
I keep this tiny tome in my purse at all times. It really is a "pocket book". It's comforting to me when I need to ground myself in the word on the fly, not just from memory, but reading it. It is also helpful when someone needs a word, and I don't have any scripture memorized for the person's needs, but the situation requires reading out the word of God, rather than reminding of general concepts (and I don't have a bible or app on hand). For example, "John 3:16" rather than "God loves you so much that he sent Jesus for you".The book is well laid out for the purposes I stated above. It is divided into themes. So, if we need to see some of what God says about love, fear, relationships, loss, finances, etc, we flip to the category and get a scripture location and a sentence of two. Easy peasy!
I'm very glad that I purchased this booklet to easily carry in my purse. However, some of the verses may have a different understanding or meaning if you read them within the context of the chapter from which they were drawn. Also, the verses were taken from multiple versions of the Bible (i.e. LB, NASV, KJV, etc.), strictly for their meaning as a stand-alone verse. Of course, with 'Safari' or 'Silk' on your iPhone or Kindle, you can easily reference the specific context from which these verses were taken without owning all the different Bible versions. Still, this book is still invaluable as a tool in growing one's faith.
We had one of these promise books when my son (now 31) was a teenager. It must have made an impact upon him then, as he recently requested a copy. Not willing to part with the original, I was glad to find this on-line, and sent it directly to him. In our phone conversations, he quotes from it often.
When I first got saved this booklet was given to me. I loved it then and I love it now. The Lord is faithful and His promises are what I hold onto.
Ephesians 6 says to put on the whole armor of God. Part of that is the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God. This little sword will fit in your purse or pocket. Keep it with you at all times, because Satan attacks at all times. If he's whispering fear to you, open this book & find scriptures on what God says about fear. If he's whispering failure, find scripture about what God says about His plans for you (they're for good, not for evil, to give you a hope & a future). Order several & give them to friends. You'll run out.....
Just started reading this book, but the word of God is great and this book is a blessing to have. It gives scriptures on certain topics that any Christisn might have concerns about or areas where we might need encouragement or even deliverance. Praise God for this compact book of Bible promises.
